Straight out of the 70s

Here are a few shots (click on pictures for extra gaudy large versions) of the house we looked at on Saturday. A contemporary home built in 1977. Walking into this place was like going back to 1977. Only the kitchen has been updated. We knew from the pictures it was going to be hideous with bizarre colored shag carpet and wallpaper but the 5 bedrooms, great location, many extra rooms, open layout, and the price it seemed worth checking out. Check out some picts below. Try not to cringe but rather see the potential (ok, that's what we are trying to do, maybe you will just think it is beyond hope)

Front of house with large circle drive. The large panoramic windows are the living room. The yard is very nice. Very nice trees with simple landscaping. Minimal upkeep but attractive.
Wow, when you enter the main floor to the left is this doozy. You can see the lower entrance (probably the one that would be used on a daily basis) at the bottom of the picture. This light fixture hangs above an open area that goes down over the "conversation nook" in the basement.
Coming in the font door and looking to the left from the formal dining room into the living room
Pink tiled and countered kitchen. Some lovely modern 1977 built-ins such as a toaster, mixer and can opener. Actually the kitchen was modified somewhat in the early 1990s. Not fantastic but not all that bad. The sun room off of the kitchen and family room. This room has a vaulted ceiling with two skylights and a ceiling fan. Oddly enough this room was an addition so there are three huge sliding doors (2 from the family room and 1 from the kitchen) which open into this room and are thus interior to the house. A bit weird but also nice to be able to isolate the room and yet have all the light and be able to see what is happening. With all the doors open the sun room, family room and eating area of the kitchen are all open to each other.
This is the family room with large brick wood fireplace. Dawn is standing in front of two sets of the sliding doors that lead into the sun room. Beautiful greenish yellowish shag rug in here.Another shot of the family room showing the full floor to ceiling windows to each side of the fireplace.
part of the backyard showing the deck off of the sun room. There are also sliding doors going onto other decks for 4 of the five bedrooms.
Ok, this is one of the less hideous bathrooms. How about those brown dots. This is the full bathroom in the basement next to a bedroom in the basement.
This is about half of the garage showing the storage cabinets in the back. There are two separate garage doors with openers. Almost the entire back of the garage has these built in storage cabinets that are at least 4 feet deep and have various types of shelves.
The "conversation nook" in the basement which really is just three steps below the entry and garage level. The door in the background is the second entrence on the lower level. Above Andrew is a very large window that extends all the way to the top of the second floor and so there is plenty of light.
Closet from master bedroom. Bedroom and bathroom have the same lovely plush green carpet.
Front of the house showing the inset formal front doorway.
